This book is a glimpse into the archive of more than five hundred of my great-grandfathers glass negatives, documenting family life in England during the 1930's to 1950's. With photography at the time being expensive and time-consuming, these images are an invaluable record of the past.
I am still in awe of my great-grandfathers technical skills, as in the infancy of photography there were only unpredictable chemicals and unrefined processes. This book shows some of my favourite photographs from the archive, giving them the visibility they deserve after sitting in boxes for almost a century. These photographs feel honest and have surprising similarities to modern photography, such as many pet and humorous group shots.
This book accompanies my graduate project and was exhibited at ALTR Exhibition in Espacio Gallery, 26-29th June 2026.
